Research Interests

Clinical and economic outcomes, statistical modeling and simulation.

Research Description

My research interests include viral hepatitis, liver transplantation, hepatocellular carcinoma, coagulation disorders in chronic liver disease, organ allocation, economic modeling, portal hypertension, hepatorenal syndrome, and medical education. With training in epidemiology, statistics, and economic outcome modeling, I am also interested in cost-effectiveness modeling and health policy. I am active in both investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials and translational research evaluating new therapies for viral hepatitis, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, coagulation disorders in cirrhosis, hepatorenal syndrome, liver transplantation organ allocation, upper GI bleeding, and hepatocellular carcinoma. I also have regulatory and policy interests and am a former member of the University of Virginia Institutional Review Board for Human Research. I am a consultant to the U.S. FDA and the U.S. National Institutes of Health and is the recipient of the 2007 American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Jan Albrecht award for clinical research.
