Education and Research Anesthesia Fellowship

The Department of Anesthesiology offers a year long fellowship in anesthesiology education and research.  Our fellow typically works one day as an OR generalist and four days as a fellow, assisting in training  at the Medical Simulation Center, with opportunities for research and publication in that field.

The emphasis of the fellowship is on

  • Development of the fellow as a simulation educator
  • Curriculum and/or educational technology development and implementation
  • Publication of the fellow’s work

The education fellowship provides the foundation of a career in simulation education and research. Over the course of the fellowship, the fellow will interact with a variety of educators, clinicians, simulation specialists, and engineers. Dr. Keith Littlewood, co-director of the Medical Simulation Center, provides direct supervision of the fellow.

Because this is a faculty position at the Instructor level, candidates must apply through the University of Virginia centralized hiring portal, Jobs@UVA. The fellowship in education is posting #0615236.

Our Employment web page has general more information about applying for employment through UVA’s hiring portal, Jobs@UVA.

Applicants will need to provide a CV, two reference letters, and a statement of interest.  The typical term of fellowship is one year, from July 1 to June 30.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the small size of the fellowship allows for individualization regarding job duties and dates.

For more information about the education fellowship, please contact Keith E. Littlewood, M.D., Assistant Dean for Clinical Skills Education, education fellowship director.
