Our Cardiac Anesthesiology Division has earned Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accreditation in Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), making us one of the first facilities in the nation to receive this designation. This achievement reflects our commitment to excellence, quality, and patient-centered care in perioperative echocardiography.
Perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a cardiac imaging technique used by anesthesiologists and other physicians during surgery or in the ICU to obtain real-time, high-resolution views of the heart. It enables assessment of cardiac structure and function as well as a patient’s hemodynamic status, helping clinicians diagnose problems such as tamponade or intracardiac thrombus and guide urgent interventions in cases of valve disease, heart failure, or unexplained instability—particularly during complex cardiac procedures and high-risk non-cardiac surgeries.
Special thanks to Dr. Karen Singh and Khaing Nwe Phoo for their outstanding leadership and hard work in achieving this milestone. We are grateful for their efforts and for the department’s commitment to advancing high-quality perioperative care.
