\nDavid L. Bogdonoff, MD<\/h2>\n

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. David L. Bogdonoff, a recently retired faculty member of the University of Virginia Department of Anesthesiology, who passed away on October 21, 2024. Dr. Bogdonoff was a dedicated member of our department for many years, making significant contributions to patient care, education, and innovation. He completed his anesthesiology residency at UVA Medical Center and later became the first anesthesiologist in our liver transplant program, a role in which he set high clinical standards and trained many future leaders in the field. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Bogdonoff will be remembered for his kindness, curiosity, and generosity. He was a multi-talented individual who enjoyed working with his hands, whether as a volunteer at Londonderry Village or as a self-proclaimed \u201cMr. Fix-It\u201d at home. Remarkably, he earned his pilot\u2019s license before he could drive and maintained it well into recent years.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bogdonoff is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Grace Bogdonoff, two children, Jacob (Ann) Bogdonoff of Crozet, VA, and Eleanor Bogdonoff of New Orleans, LA, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Fox and Stella Bogdonoff. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to either the Mark Bogdonoff Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at Monroe Community College or the Good Samaritan Fund at Londonderry Village, where Dr. Bogdonoff spent his retirement giving back to his community. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. Dr. Bogdonoff\u2019s legacy of compassion, teaching, and service will live on within our department and beyond. Retirements<\/h2>\n

Robert Goldstein, MD<\/h2>\n

\"University<\/p>\n

Dr. Robert Goldstein, originally from New Jersey, earned a BS in Health Sciences in Anesthesia at Case Western Reserve University, training as an Anesthesiologist Assistant. After working at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, he pursued his medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio and completed his residency at Yale\u2013New Haven Medical Center. Following 14 years in private practice in Virginia and a brief return to Connecticut, Dr. Goldstein joined UVA, where he has served for over 20 years. At UVA, he has held key roles as Medical Director of the Pain Management Center and Division Chief of Pain Medicine. Board-certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, he has been instrumental in the UVA Cancer Center and co-founded the Supportive Care Conference to advance multidisciplinary pain and symptom management.<\/p>\n

Dr. Goldstein\u2019s SPARK Initiative led to medication recovery boxes across the region, promoting safe medication disposal. He has also supported the Blue Ridge Chapter of the MS Society, focusing on spasticity and pain management. An avid cyclist, he and his wife participate in the annual Virginia MS Ride. Dr. Goldstein\u2019s legacy reflects dedication to patient care, innovation, and community health advocacy. We thank him for his years spent bettering UVA and the lives of countless patients and wish him a wonderful retirement!<\/p>\n

Keith Littlewood, MD<\/h2>\n

\"keith<\/p>\n

Dr. Keith Littlewood joined UVA\u2019s School of Medicine in 1999 and retired as Assistant Dean and the Carl Lynch III Endowed Professor. A Columbia University
\nengineering graduate, he earned his medical degree from Upstate Medical University and trained in internal medicine at Washington Hospital Center and anesthesiology at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service. Dr. Littlewood\u2019s career balanced clinical excellence with educational innovation, focusing on liver transplantation and cardiothoracic anesthesiology. He was the department\u2019s first Vice Chair for Education and co-founded the School of Medicine\u2019s simulation program, now a cornerstone of clinical training. Appointed Medical Director of the Simulation Program in 2008, he helped elevate UVA\u2019s international standing in clinical education and earned numerous teaching awards, including the inaugural UVA Health Master Educator Award. Nationally, he contributed to simulation education through leadership roles with the American Board of Anesthesiology and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. A champion of healthcare equity, he also supported interprofessional education through the UVA Simulation Collaborative.<\/p>\n

In retirement, Dr. Littlewood plans to continue his research while enjoying woodworking, outdoor adventures, and time with his spouse of over 40 years, their three children, and three grandchildren. We are grateful for all of his contributions to UVA and the field of anesthesiology! Wishing him a happy retirement!<\/p>\n
