Kara Wiseman, PhD, MPH, an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences, wrote an article last year for the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) about the U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on alcohol as a risk factor for cancer. The article received significant attention and views on the SBM website, an accomplishment that resulted in Wiseman and her colleagues being honored with a SBM 2026 Leading the Narrative Award. In addition to Wiseman, her co-authors and co-recipients of the award include Amy McQueen, PhD, from Washington University in St. Louis, Nadia A. Sesay, MA, a doctoral student at the University of Kentucky, and Jennifer L. Hay, PhD, from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Wiseman and her colleagues will be presented with the award at the society’s annual meeting in Chicago, IL, on April 23, 2026. Read Dr. Wiseman’s article on the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s website and learn more about the society’s mission to advance the science of behavioral medicine and well-being.
