MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN MENTAL HEALTH

Phil Chow
Philip Chow, PhD

Philip Chow completed his B.A. in Psychology at Cornell University, his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a 2016 NIH mHealth Training Institute Scholar. He completed a UVA Hobby post-doctoral fellowship sponsored by the departments of psychology and engineering. His current research leverages mobile technology to track and intervene in mood and anxiety disorders, as well as health related behaviors. He has several projects examining the use of smartphones to remotely monitor and intervene in distress symptoms in cancer populations. Much of his research integrates innovative methods and approaches in psychology and engineering.

Learning Objectives:
(1) become familiar with some terminology in mobile mental health research;
(2) understand some of the ways that mobile technology can address pressing mental health needs
(3) learn some practical tips for choosing and evaluating mental health related apps on app stores.
