{"id":1554,"date":"2019-09-03T11:59:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/bims\/?p=1554"},"modified":"2019-09-03T12:32:33","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T16:32:33","slug":"ellen-mintz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/bims\/ellen-mintz\/","title":{"rendered":"Ellen Mintz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1556 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/bims\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2019\/09\/Mintz_smsq.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>Ellen Mintz graduated in the summer of 2019 with a degree in Experimental Pathology.\u00a0 She was the first student to join the lab of George Christ when he moved to the Biomedical Engineering department at UVA in 2014. \u00a0Her project was on \u201cEvaluation of Functional Outcomes Following Modification of a Tissue Engineered Muscle Repair Technology for the Treatment of Volumetric Muscle Loss\u201d.\u00a0 This project was a continuation of the work done in George Christ\u2019s former lab at Wake Forest University.<\/p>\n<p>In her work, Ellen was able to explore some of the regenerative mechanisms following treatment with the therapy she studied, and that her project probed some of the current challenges of tissue engineered treatments in a specific injury model of volumetric muscle loss.\u00a0 Her work was accepted for publication in Tissue Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen has always been interested in working for the government and she will soon be beginning a new position as a Presidential Management Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).\u00a0 This is a rotational position with the goal of finding a home within the federal government at the end of the two year fellowship.\u00a0 She doesn\u2019t know what type of position she would like at that time, but by then, she will meet a lot of people and learn more about what kind of work is going on around her.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen says that she will miss the people that she worked with here in BIMS and that she always felt that UVA was a warm and welcoming place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ellen Mintz graduated in the summer of 2019 with a degree in Experimental Pathology.\u00a0 She was the first student to join the lab of George Christ when he moved to the Biomedical Engineering department at UVA in 2014. \u00a0Her project was on \u201cEvaluation of Functional Outcomes Following Modification of a Tissue Engineered Muscle Repair Technology [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":710,"featured_media":1556,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1554","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-graduate-student-accomplishments"],"acf":false,"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.1.1 -
