#WomenInMedicineMonth may be over but we believe that women should be celebrated all year long. Starting this month we’re going to highlight one outstanding woman in medicine and science every month as the COWIMS Woman of the Month. This month, we recognize Dr. Mary Faith Marshall. Dr. Marshall is the Emily Davie and Joseph S. Kornfeld Professor of Biomedical Ethics as well as the Director of both the Center for Humanities and Ethics and the Program in Biomedical Ethics. She co-chairs the UVA Health System ethics committee, directs its Ethics Consult Service, and serves on its Moral Distress Consult Service. Her incredible work has been recognized in her various leadership positions, which includes terms as president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) and the American Association for Bioethics, and a number of awards to include the 1999 Trailblazer Award from the Charleston Chapter of the NAACP for her work in policy approaches to perinatal substance use disorder.
