David Lapides, MD
Assistant Professor, Neurology
David Lapides is an Assistant Professor of Neurology specializing in autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system at the University of Virginia. He has an undergraduate degree from St. John’s College where he did his thesis on King Henry IV, Part 1 and completed undergraduate premedical coursework at the University of Pennsylvania. He attended medical school at the University of Maryland, and completed his residency in neurology and fellowship in neuroimmunology at the University of Virginia.
He joined faculty at UVA in 2018 and is a member of the Medical Center Ethics Committee as well as a Health Care Ethics Consultant on the Ethics Consult Service. He serves on Ethics Committee Inappropriate Treatment work group and has particular interest in ethical issues that arise surrounding complex decision making in neurologically devastated patients. He is actively engaged in education at a medical student, resident and fellow level in both biomedical ethics and medical humanities.
