The UVA Center for Health Humanities and Ethics is a diverse interprofessional community of scholars, teachers, and practitioners whose interests in the human dimensions of illness, health, and health care bridge clinical and social sciences, arts and humanities, ethics and law, philosophy and religion.Our mission is to demonstrate the complementary nature of our disciplines while furthering their productive integration and application in the classroom and clinic, at the bedside, and in the community.The center offers ethics and humanities education for medical students, residents, and faculty in many different formats and venues. In addition, center faculty teach graduate and undergraduate courses in biomedical ethics and humanities across a number of UVA schools and programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Center
\n\u2022 Leads the ethics education curriculum in the School of Medicine\u2019s undergraduate medical education.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Provides consultation services in clinical and research ethics for the UVA Health System.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Offers interdisciplinary and interprofessional graduate courses that combine medical, nursing, law, and public health sciences students.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Engages in research, scholarship, and policy work in health humanities and ethics with particular emphasis among its faculty on medical education, reproductive and sexual health, human subjects research, quality improvement, neuro-ethics, and end-of-life decision-making.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Is home to Medical Center Hour<\/a>, the School of Medicine\u2019s weekly forum on medicine and society.<\/span>
\n\u2022 Includes a program in Studies in Reproductive Ethics and Justice<\/a>, which pursues scholarship, teaching, policy, and media support for reproductive and sexual health.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
