Vision & Priorities

BMETS-RC’s ultimate goal is not just to prevent and promptly detect brain metastases and improve survival, but also to improve survivorship: the quality of life for patients whose cancers have spread to the brain.

To realize this vision, BMETS-RC employs a two-component model: a clinical program of excellence providing coordinated and consistent care, paired with a research collaborative that brings together investigators doing brain metastases research across UVACCC.

Our work both pursues and leverages promising and effective new therapies for brain metastases, including immunotherapy as well as combination and personalized therapies. Only about 10-15% of patients are now likely to benefit from whole-brain radiation therapy, driving the need for research into personalized approaches.
