Research Interests:

The renewable and validate antibodies reagents are among the most frequently used tools in basic science research, clinical diagnostics and therapeutic applications. As core director of Anybody Engineering and Technology (AbET) core, my research interest is focused on isolation and customization of highly selective and affinity antibodies using recombinant antibody engineering technology. My goal is to provide guidelines for antibody validation that ensure antibody specificity and reproducibility are cornerstone of the advancement of science. The core assists investigators in planning their research to match experimental aims with available technology.

Research Interests:

Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase that constitutes a multifunctional link between numerous cell surface receptors, such as integrins and toll-like receptors (TLRs), and downstream effector molecules important for cell migration and inflammatory gene induction. My research is focused on understanding how FAK functions in host defense against the enteric pathogen Salmonella typhimurium, as well as how this molecule impacts the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier.

Research Interests:

Biological research has relied more and more on microscopy to reveal structures and events that are invisible to us. As the director of the microscopy core facility, my goal is to provide UVA researchers means of visualization and as such, my research interest is focused on developing microscopy methodologies, especially sample processing techniques for conventional and specialized electron microscopy and correlative light and electron microscopy.
