While preventing physician suicide is the focus of this program, all who provide patient care can benefit from the discussion. Learning how to engage in conversations that break the code of silence around provider suicidality and burnout is important for everyone who works in clinical settings. Knowing how to intervene when a colleague is struggling is a vital step in creating healthy and supportive work environments and transforming our organizational culture.

Desired Outcomes: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to describe:

  • Identify team members at risk for suicide
  • Evidence-based suicide-prevention strategies
  • Strategies for transforming the health care system’s approach to mental health

Series target audience: We invite all interested health system staff, faculty, students, and University and community members to share in the conversation.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™: The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.TM  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
ANCC Contact Hours: The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing awards 1.0 contact hours for nurses who participate in this educational activity and complete the post activity evaluation.
Hours of Participation: The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing awards 1.0 hours of participation (consistent with the designated number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM  or ANCC contact hours) to a participant who successfully completes this educational activity. The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing maintains a record of participation for six (6) years.

Step 2: Once you have signed in, you will be on the registration page, please complete and select Submit.

Step 3: Once you click on Begin Activity and then View Content, the video will open in another tab. (DO NOT CLOSE THIS TAB OUT)

Step 4: Watch the video in its entirety.

Step 5: Click on the prior (Enduring Material) Tab that is located at the top of the browser to continue to the post test.

Step 6: Click on the Begin Post Test  button to proceed to the post test.

Step 7: Answer the 5 questions on the post test. Check your answers for each question as you go along by clicking the Check Answer button. Multiple attempts to pass at 80% are allowed during this session only.

Step 8: Once you have successfully passed the post test, click continue to be sent to the evaluation page. Once you submit the evaluation, you will be be on the Certificate Preparation Page. Please enter the total number of credits and select Submit. A certificate will be generated for you to print or save a PDF for later.
