Advanced Practice Provider Development will be composed of Grand Rounds and additional types of conferences. Conferences will be recorded using VIMEO subject to availability of recording equipment and participants who could not attend the conference in person will have the opportunity to watch the VIMEO recording and answer 5 questions in order to earn credit.
This APP Development initiative is designed as a self-assessment activity. The content presented in APP Development creates a broad base of knowledge that is essential to maintain competence and to identify areas for continued professional development.
This website provides a listing of the APP Development conference with the date, presenter (with biographical and conflict of interest (COI) information) and a copy of the key messages and/or the presentations for your reference. This information will be followed by assessments of the content presented during the conference and requires a passing score of 80%. Participation in sessions listed below will provide AMA PRA Category 1 credit™ for MDs and DOs, and ANCC Contact Hours for all nurses, as well as Hours of Participation for non-MD or non-nursing personnel who participate.

This one hour continuing education activity serves as a basic review of palliative care concepts and important medications in palliative care. Palliative care is a discipline focusing on the holistic care of persons and allowing patients to live and die well. This presentation should not be seen as a comprehensive review.
Goals of presentation:
Understand the importance of pharmacotherapy in palliative care and its history in medicine
Explain the key terminology and concept differences between palliative care, comfort care and hospice
Outline key medications or medication classes used for treatment of common palliative care symptoms
Review basic principles of opioid equianalgesic dose conversion
Discuss polypharmacy, potentially inappropriate medications, and deprescribing in palliative care
