{"id":11308,"date":"2025-01-07T07:32:34","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T12:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/community-outreach-engagement\/?p=11308"},"modified":"2025-01-07T07:32:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T12:32:51","slug":"uva-cancer-center-honored-among-nations-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/community-outreach-engagement\/2025\/01\/uva-cancer-center-honored-among-nations-best\/","title":{"rendered":"UVA Cancer Center Honored Among Nation\u2019s Best"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>Becker\u2019s Hospital Review has named UVA Cancer Center to its 2024 list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>\u201cThese institutions have garnered national acclaim for advancing cancer care via their cutting-edge clinical trials and life-changing research,\u201d the national healthcare publication\u2019s editors wrote in the list\u2019s introduction. \u201cThe list features cancer centers with globally renowned experts, innovative clinical trials and intensive safety protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>Becker\u2019s described UVA Cancer Center, which serves more than 3.2 million people across 87 counties in Virginia and West Virginia in addition to people throughout the region and nation, as \u201ca leader in cancer care, research and community outreach.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>The publication spotlighted UVA Cancer Center\u2019s 50% increase in patient volume since 2014 and a nearly 500% rise in research participation, backed by $77 million in annual research funding, which has included groundbreaking research on prostate and nerve sheath cancers. \u201cUVA Health is committed to pioneering treatments, including offering Virginia\u2019s first MRI-guided radiation therapy and FDA-approved immunotherapy for small cell lung cancer,\u201d the publication said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>\u201cOur team at the UVA Cancer Center is committed not only to providing high-quality care for our patients but to bringing new, state-of-the-art and innovative cancer treatments to those with complex diagnoses,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>K. Craig Kent, MD<\/strong>, UVA Health\u2019s chief executive officer and the University of Virginia\u2019s executive vice president for health affairs. \u201cEarning a spot on Becker\u2019s Hospital Review\u2019s list of great oncology programs is a well-deserved honor for our nationally recognized team.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-width\">\n<p>UVA Cancer Center was the first cancer center in Virginia designated by the National Cancer Institute as a comprehensive cancer center \u2014 and one of just 57 nationally \u2014 for its excellence in patient care, research and outreach.
