{"id":9257,"date":"2023-05-02T09:39:27","date_gmt":"2023-05-02T13:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/community-outreach-engagement\/?p=9257"},"modified":"2023-05-02T09:39:49","modified_gmt":"2023-05-02T13:39:49","slug":"where-theres-smoke-uva-wise-coeburn-middle-school-students-continue-famhealth-anti-tobacco-use-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/community-outreach-engagement\/2023\/05\/where-theres-smoke-uva-wise-coeburn-middle-school-students-continue-famhealth-anti-tobacco-use-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Where there\u2019s smoke \u2026 UVA Wise, Coeburn Middle School students continue FamHealth anti-tobacco use project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WISE \u2014 Year two of a project linking UVA Wise and Coeburn Middle School students in a fight against tobacco use came to center court Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Cody Sanders, associate professor of physical education at the college, watched as about 75 Coeburn seventh-graders continued their anti-tobacco messaging work with a new group of UVA Wise majors in various sports and physical education programs across the basketball court at Greear Gymnasium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, we focused on tobacco prevention messages,\u201d Sanders said of the Coeburn students\u2019 work in the fall semester. That included one group of college students coaching the seventh-graders as they developed posters, videos and songs to appear on the school\u2019s social media page and electronic sign.<\/p>\n<p>The FamHealth program, now in its second year, has helped the Coeburn students create messages to send out to their peers and families and just promote tobacco prevention, refusal skills and dealing with peer pressure. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesnews.net\/news\/where-there-s-smoke-uva-wise-coeburn-middle-school-students-continue-famhealth-anti-tobacco-use\/article_1418b2a8-de23-11ed-80e6-637b11b14c16.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&gt;Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WISE \u2014 Year two of a project linking UVA Wise and Coeburn Middle School students in a fight against tobacco use came to center court Tuesday.
