February 21, 2026, Richmond, VA – the University of Virginia Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) proudly attended the Breakthrough T1D One Night Gala in Richmond, Virginia, on February 21, 2026, in support of fundraising efforts to advance research toward curing type 1 diabetes (T1D). UVA Health in total contributed a $5,000 donation to the event.
The annual gala brought together researchers, advocates, families, and community leaders united by a shared goal: accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. As a longstanding research partner and collaborator, CDT values its strong relationship with Breakthrough T1D and its shared commitment to transforming the future of diabetes care.

The Center for Diabetes Technology has pursued a path to advance the use of technology to improve management, monitoring, and therapies for people living with type 1 diabetes. Today, CDT is recognized as a world leader in the technological treatment of diabetes and serves as the hub of an international research network that includes leading U.S. institutions and global partners in Italy, France, Holland, and Argentina.
Breakthrough T1D’s mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. As the organization drives toward curing T1D, it also works to improve everyday life for those living with the condition.
During the evening, attendees heard powerful remarks from Breakthrough T1D CEO Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D., who emphasized the momentum within the field:
“Cures for T1D are a matter of when, not if. We are closer than ever to taking off our devices and walking away from the condition for good.”
CDT’s participation and financial contribution reflect the center’s continued dedication to advancing research and supporting organizations that share its vision of a world without type 1 diabetes.
