Professional Activities

Dr. Driscoll is a behavioral scientist and licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in the management of chronic illnesses, particularly type 1 diabetes. Her overall program of research focuses on the psychological and social sequelae associated with type 1 diabetes in children and adults in two areas: use of diabetes devices to assess self-management behaviors and implement interventions to improve treatment adherence; and fear of hypoglycemia. Her research specifically encompasses the implementation of patient-oriented, multi-site, randomized controlled clinical trials; ecological momentary assessment of type 1 diabetes self-management behaviors; and providing interventions to improve self-management behaviors and glycemia.

Additional research interests include quality of life, eating and weight, executive functioning, depression and suicide, anxiety, adverse childhood and stressful life events, aging, and provider bias in the context of having diabetes. She has been continuously funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) since 2012. Dr. Driscoll is currently the Contact MPI of a NIDDK-funded U01, which is a 5-year longitudinal, observational study to assess the neurocognitive abilities of and structural and functional changes in the brains of children who are newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
