UVA Health in total contributed a $5,000 donation to the event.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"535\" data-end=\"937\">The annual gala brought together researchers, advocates, families, and community leaders united by a shared goal: accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. Today, CDT is recognized as a world leader in the technological treatment of diabetes and serves as the hub of an international research network that includes leading U.S. institutions and global partners in Italy, France, Holland, and Argentina.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1647\">Breakthrough T1D\u2019s mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. As the organization drives toward curing T1D, it also works to improve everyday life for those living with the condition.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1821\">During the evening, attendees heard powerful remarks from Breakthrough T1D CEO <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Aaron J. Kowalski<\/span><\/span>, Ph.D., who emphasized the momentum within the field:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"1966\">\n<p data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1966\">\u201cCures for T1D are a matter of when, not if.
