Through the leadership of Gregory Saathoff, MD, forensic psychiatrist and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Public Health Sciences, UVA School of Medicine — the UVA Health Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Program is being recognized as a model for best practices in the American Hospital Association (AHA) and FBI publication, “Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management | Prevent and Protect; A Resource Compendium for Further Learning.”

The program is highlighted in the article on page 4, “Threat Assessment and Management in the Real World: The University of Virginia Medical Center,” co-authored by — and pictured, from left: Ed Markowski, MA, LPC, CTM, Director, Threat Assessment, UVA; Andrew E. Muck, MD, MBA, Chair and Professor, UVA Department of Emergency Medicine; and Dr. Saathoff. (Photo by Hope Duncan.)

In addition, Dr. Saathoff authored an article on page 11: “Why a National Guide Is Needed for Violence Prevention in Hospitals.”

“This recognition by AHA and FBI underscores UVA’s leadership and excellence in behavioral threat assessment and violence prevention,” says Dr. Muck. “It’s a testament to the exceptional work being done here and reflects the strength of the interdisciplinary approach and institutional commitment to safety.”
