Dr. Nardos Makonnen is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia, where she also serves as Assistant Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and Assistant Director of the Division of Global Health. She received her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University and went on to earn her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed Emergency Medicine residency training at the University of Virginia then obtained a Global Health Fellowship and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from George Washington University.
Dr. Makonnen’s academic interests center on medical education and global public health, with a particular emphasis on teaching in resource-variable settings. She has had the opportunity to teach learners in diverse clinical and educational environments both domestically and internationally. Her work focuses on strengthening emergency care delivery and training programs across varied global contexts.
