This achievement highlights their unwavering dedication to providing efficient, compassionate, and collaborative emergency care.<\/p>\n

One Year In! UVA Health Children’s Peds ED Nurses Celebrate Growth and Success – Connect<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

\"emergency<\/p>\n

UVA Health Children\u2019s<\/a>, the\u00a0#1 children\u2019s hospital in Virginia<\/a>, is celebrating the first anniversary of its\u00a0Pediatrics Emergency Department (Peds ED)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a busy, busy year,\u201d says Nurse Manager\u00a0Alex Kasmere, MSN, RN, CPEN, TCRN, EMTP<\/strong>, (above, right) who has been with the department\u00a0since day one<\/a>. \u201cWe hired 18 full-time nurses, two charge nurses, an administrative assistant, a unit secretary, and eight techs. We saw more than 18,000 patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kasmere says the partnership with Medical Director\u00a0Elisabeth A. Rogers, MD<\/a><\/strong>, has been critical to the success of the Peds ED. \u201cDr. Rogers has brought in a great team of physicians who really want to take care of our kids,\u201d he explains. \u201cI definitely would not be able to do what I do without having her as a partner.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

While there\u2019s still much work to be done, the Pediatric Emergency Department is serving more and more patients every day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As the department expands, families are noticing the difference. \u201cWe\u2019re building our patient population by word of mouth. When they get to us, they see the difference. I have parents who will say, \u2018I\u2019ll drive the extra hour and a half instead of being transferred,\u2019\u201d Kasmere recounts. \u201cIf a patient shows up, we\u2019re going to take care of them.
