Facilitated by Troy S. Buer, PhD, <\/strong>Director for Faculty Development and Assistant Professor of Medical Education, and Susan M. Pollart<\/strong>, MD, MS, Ruth E. Murdaugh Professor of Family Medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development<\/p><\/div>\n

Description\/Learning Objectives<\/strong>: This retreat is intended for all new School of Medicine basic science and clinical faculty at the Assistant Professor level and above; will begin with breakfast and introductions of new faculty attendees by their department chairs; and will include the following topics:
\n\u2022 Shaping your Career (Using a faculty life cycle model, participants will explore strategies for career and professional development planning.)
\n\u2022 Academic Advancement and Transition (This session provides an opportunity for new faculty to meet with, and get tips\/insights from, newly promoted faculty in their track.)
\n\u2022 Introduction and lunch with key School of Medicine faculty support (Leaders will briefly describe the resources\/services they offer. This session will be followed by a luncheon with these leaders, to allow individual or small-group consultation.)<\/p>\n

Accreditation & Designation Statements<\/strong>
\nIn support of improving patient care, the University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.<\/p>\n

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits\u2122:\u00a0The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing designates this live activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits<\/strong> TM.\u00a0 Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.<\/p>\n

Hours of Participation:\u00a0The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing awards\u00a05 hours of participation <\/strong>(consistent with the designated number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)\u2122 or ANCC contact hours) to a participant who successfully completes this educational activity. The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing maintains a record of participation for six (6) years.<\/p>\n

The University of Virginia School of Medicine and School of Nursing as a Joint Accreditation Provider adhere to the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, released in December 2020, as well as Commonwealth of Virginia statutes, University of Virginia policies and procedures, and associated federal and private regulations and guidelines. As the accredited provider for this CE\/IPCE activity, we are responsible for ensuring that healthcare professionals have access to professional development activities that are based on best practices and scientific integrity that ultimately supports the care of patients and the public.<\/p>\n
