Pediatric nephrology.
Research Description
Clinical Research Activities include direction of the pediatric section of the Nephrology Clinical Research Center at UVA. Active protocols include NIH-, industry-, and privately-funded projects throughout the scope of pediatric nephrology including the progression of chronic kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome, anemia management, growth, and hypertension. Translational work includes investigation of urinary biomarkers in human renal development and vesicoureteral reflux. Basic science interests focus on the molecular embryology of renal development and maldevelopment. A new arena of research is that of educational research in pediatric nephrology, a joint effort with the American Board of Pediatrics.
