{"id":1731014,"date":"2025-06-17T11:17:34","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T15:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/faculty\/faculty-listing\/smp8n\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T15:13:00","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T19:13:00","slug":"smp8n","status":"publish","type":"faculty-listing","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/faculty\/faculty-listing\/smp8n\/","title":{"rendered":"Powell, Steven M."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gastrointestinal cancers generate one of the largest health burdens on society. Thus, advancing our current diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic armamentarium to combat these lethal cancers are a primary focus of our team.&#013;&#010;&#013;&#010;Recent advances in the fields of molecular genetics and biology provide new avenues we are using to increase our understanding of the development of these gastrointestinal cancers.  Investigations include molecular biologic analyses focused on both familial and sporadic cases of these cancers including colorectal and gastric cancers.
