Reflections About This Award
Faculty Reflections
“I traveled to a beachfront location alone to write, create a Narrative Medicine curriculum and have the time to allow my being to sleep, eat well, exercise and “be” in nature. Our prefrontal cortex is so overloaded that there is little time for the brain to focus and create; create new thoughts, create new ways of being within our own selves, create a new way of going in the world. Our need to have the time and place to do this in order to maintain our productivity. This was the first and only time since I have been at UVA that my thoughts came to me in this way; create, think clearly without the interference of others and their needs, without the interference of clinical questions, of unrelenting paperwork, of unrelenting meetings. It was indeed a gift.”
