UVA Division of General, Geriatric, Palliative & Hospital Medicine is committed to excellence in patient care that improves the health of adults throughout their lifespan.
The Division is comprised of more than 70 faculty members and four clinical service sections, including thriving primary care practices and a rapidly expanding program in hospital medicine. Geriatrics faculty have well-established, community-based practices in the Charlottesville area that provide outpatient, long-term, and home-based care. Palliative care faculty, who have garnered national recognition for their work, provide end-of-life care and education at UVA Hospital and the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center.
In 2015, the division was excited to open the UVA Primary and Specialty Care Pantops Integrative Medicine practice. Launched in collaboration with the UVA Medical Center and the Department of Family Medicine, the practice provides compassionate, “high-touch” primary care. In addition to traditional services, the clinic offers acupuncture, medical yoga, massage and mindfulness-based stress reduction. Dr. John Leiner is the medical director for this growing practice.
