Hi! I’m a Charlottesville native who happily returned home for medical school after majoring in Religious Studies at the College of William and Mary. I didn’t originally plan to pursue medicine, so in between college and medical school I did a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program and then worked in Washington, DC for two years. One of the major reasons that I chose to come to UVA was the Generalist Scholars Program and the opportunities it promised to connect with my local community in a new way. From day one of GSP orientation I knew that the program would help me to know a different side of Charlottesville and would challenge me to think about social issues in health care delivery at both the individual and community level. What I didn’t know coming into the program was that GSP would become my medical school family. The faculty and students have been a wonderful support system throughout medical school, and I feel so lucky to be part of GSP! Next year I will start residency in Pediatrics and I know that the mentorship and exposure to primary care that I have had through GSP will serve me well as I make this next step.
