Pre-Matriculation Summer \u2013 Summer prior to entering medical school<\/h4>\n

July<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend the 3-week summer session which introduces students to a) the basic issues and challenges facing primary care medicine, b) the local community and its needs, c) the nature of the scholarship project and associated requirements, d) the group community service project e) other GSP students and the GSP faculty and f) a shadowing and preceptorship experience.<\/p>\n

Year 1 \u2013 Semester 1<\/h4>\n

August \u2013 December<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend regular bi-weekly GSP curricular and student-faculty lunches<\/p>\n

Participate in student-initiated activities such as journal club, a retreat, community service projects, etc.<\/p>\n

August \u2013 September<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make a brief, 5 minute presentation on a case of interest from the summer preceptorship experience<\/p>\n

Meet with GSP mentor<\/p>\n

September<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend Primary Care Week activities<\/p>\n

Contact supervisor at SIM\/GSP community service site<\/p>\n

October \u2013 December<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plan spring SIM\/GSP community service activity<\/p>\n

Meet with GSP Scholarship Coordinator to discuss scholarship project<\/p>\n

Year 1 \u2013 Semester 2<\/h4>\n

January – May<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend regular bi-weekly GSP curricular and student-faculty lunches<\/p>\n

Participate in student-initiated activities such as journal club, a retreat, community service projects, etc.<\/p>\n

January – February<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meet with GSP mentor<\/p>\n

Meet with GSP Scholarship Coordinator to refine scholarship project and begin framing it; Discuss scholarship proposal with GSP mentor and receive input.<\/p>\n

Make application, if necessary, for IRB approval for scholarship project<\/p>\n

March<\/strong><\/p>\n

Register for MSSRP (Medical Student Summer Research Program)
\nStudents must complete registration with MSSRP according to MSSRP deadlines.<\/p>\n

Develop a timeline with measurable benchmarks for scholarship project and seek approval for timeline from GSP Scholarship Coordinator and GSP mentor<\/p>\n

May<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend the 4th year Scholarship Presentation event<\/p>\n

May – August<\/strong><\/p>\n

Set date for Primary Care Week for the coming year; Plan Primary Care Week sessions<\/p>\n

Summer Between Year 1 & 2 (Between Semesters 2 & 3)<\/h4>\n

June \u2013 July<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participate in MSSRP; Begin GSP scholarship project and make substantial progress as per timeline agreed upon with GSP Scholarship Coordinator and GSP mentor<\/p>\n

Finalize speakers and sessions for Primary Care Week<\/p>\n

July<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meet with incoming GSP students during the summer session to welcome them; Plan and implement a welcoming activity for new students during summer session; Attend evening welcoming social event<\/p>\n

August<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meet with GSP administrator to order refreshments for Primary Care Week<\/p>\n

Year 2 \u2013 Semester 3<\/h4>\n

August \u2013 December<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attend regular bi-weekly GSP curricular and student-faculty lunches<\/p>\n

Participate in student-initiated activities such as journal club, a retreat, community service projects, etc. (schedule permitting)<\/p>\n

Attend regular bi-weekly GSP curricular and student-faculty lunches (schedule permitting)<\/p>\n

Required Curriculum: During semesters 4 \u2013 8 (Year 3 or Year 4) students are expected to complete one of the following and prepare a brief presentation (10 \u2013 15 minutes) to the rest of the GSP community at a student-faculty lunch session:<\/p>\n

  1. Read an article on an a primary care related topic and write a 100-200 word review that summarizes the key points and conclusions. Submit the review to the GSP administrator via email to be shared with the GSP community.<\/li>\n
  2. Compose and submit a letter to the editor on a topic related to primary care. Send a copy of your letter to the GSP administrator via email to be shared with the GSP community.<\/li>\n
  3. Compose a written (100-200 words) reflection on a meaningful clinical experience. Submit a copy of the reflection to the GSP administrator via email to be shared with the GSP community.<\/li>\n
  4. Select a primary care topic of interest and prepare a brief presentation (10 \u2013 15 minutes) to be presented to the GSP community at a curricular lunch session.<\/li>\n
  5. Propose an activity of similar scope and magnitude as the above that would be meaningful and appropriate to share with the GSP community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
