I was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Northern Virginia. I attended the US Naval Academy and became a Marine officer and eventually a Marine helicopter pilot. During my service overseas, I flew a lot of casualty evacuation missions transporting wounded Marines and soldiers to surgical field hospitals. It was this exposure to medicine, through the doctors and nurses treating our wounded, which initially sparked my interest in becoming a physician. After leaving the Marines, my wife and I disappeared on a sailboat in the tropics for a couple years. Upon returning home to the US and while we were regaining our landlegs, I worked for a federal contractor and finished my post bac coursework in Northern Virginia.<\/p>\n
I am thrilled to be a part of the GSP, learning about primary care and its challenges and our health care system in general. My hope is to develop ideas to be a force for improving our system and especially primary care medicine.
