A native to northern Virginia, I am excited to be at UVA for medical school after a 6-year hiatus from my home state. I was born and raised on a boarding school campus in Alexandria, where a \u2018family meal\u2019 meant grabbing a tray and sitting down to eat with students and other faculty families for dinner. After 18 years in this close-knit community, I moved to hot and humid Houston, TX to attend college at Rice University. While at Rice, I studied mathematical economic analysis and ran on the NCAA Division I cross-country and track teams. I also had the opportunity to work on a research team in the Texas Medical Center that looked at the role of behavioral economics in medical decision making. This, along with other shadowing and volunteer experiences in the Houston area led me to change courses and pursue medical school.<\/p>\n
After graduating from Rice, I moved to Maryland where I completed my pre-medical requirements at Goucher College. I then spent a year working as a clinical research assistant at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital in Boston, MA. There, I worked on a team that studies how a patient\u2019s social network impacts his or her recovery from stroke. My motivation for studying medicine has always been rooted in a desire to serve my community as a primary care physician. I am grateful to have the opportunity to develop my understanding of how one\u2019s community impacts her health and healthcare as a member of the GSP.<\/p>\n
