With these renovations, cancer begins making a comfortable home for itself inside our cells.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven when the genetic code in DNA sequence may largely remain the same, the three-dimensional structure of chromosomes in cancer can be very different from our normal cells,\u201d said researcher <strong>Chongzhi Zang, a computational biologist with UVA\u2019s Center for Public Health Genomics<\/strong>. \u201cA better understanding of the cancer genome structure can give us insights for developing new drugs to specifically target the Achilles\u2019 heel of each cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Findings Published<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The researchers have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1186\/s13059-020-02152-7\"><strong>published their findings in the scientific journal Genome Biology<\/strong><\/a>. The <strong>UVA research team consisted of Zhenjia Wang, Aakrosh Ratan and Zang<\/strong>.
