The fellowship honors tenured faculty members who have made significant contributions to their departments and schools, but are not yet chairholders of endowed professorships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the launch of the Shannon Mid-Career Fellows program, we are taking an important step to foster excellence and build an interdisciplinary community of distinguished scholars who are rising leaders in their schools and their fields,\u201d Baucom said. \u201cOur first cohort is remarkable, and I am delighted that we are able to support their continued progress in their careers here at UVA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nominated by their deans, these are the fellowship\u2019s first recipients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stephen Baek, School of Data Science.<\/li>\n<li>A.D. Carson, College and Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mete Civelek, School of Medicine.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Bimal Desai, School of Medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Jon Goodall, School of Engineering and Applied Science.<\/li>\n<li>John Holbein, Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.<\/li>\n<li>Melissa Kendall, School of Medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Kisha Lashley, McIntire School of Commerce.<\/li>\n<li>Matthew Lazzara, School of Engineering and Applied Science.<\/li>\n<li>Suzanne Moomaw, School of Architecture.<\/li>\n<li>Angel Adams Parham, College and Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Rebecca Pompano, College and Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Lana Swartz, College and Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Rachel Wahl, School of Education and Human Development.<\/li>\n<li>Ishan Williams, School of Nursing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThey are an incredibly impressive group,\u201d Baucom said. The new fellowship, he said, is part of the University\u2019s commitment to \u201cattracting outstanding faculty members to the University and making this community the place where rising stars want to build and sustain their academic careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--body-text paragraph--view-mode--full\">\n<div class=\"entity entity-paragraphs-item paragraphs-item-body-text clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-body-text field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even item-0\">\n<p>The fellows will serve three-year terms. Each year, deans will nominate a new group of faculty members for the fellowship, supported through the University\u2019s Shannon Center for Advanced Studies. The center, named for former UVA president Edgar F.
