Over the course of the day, approximately 90 middle schoolers explored fundamental concepts in genetics, genomics, and biomedical science through a series of interactive sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Each session encouraged students to ask questions, make connections, and think critically about the role of genome sciences in the world around them. The experience proved just as inspiring for the faculty and trainees, many of whom described the day as a highlight of their outreach work.<\/p>\n<p>Session topics included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is Epigenomics? (presenter: <strong>Dr. Nathan Sheffield<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>The Molecular Structure of DNA (presenters: <strong>Drs. Ani Manichaikul and Catherine Debban<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>The Baby Alien Game: An Interactive Introduction to Genetics (presenters: <strong>Lucia Wagner and Saikat Bandyopadhyay<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>DNA and Viruses (presenter: <strong>Patrick Hart<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year\u2019s DNA Day outreach a success.
