The UVA Medical Center is a participating member of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and all applicants for first-year positions must register with these programs. Most programs require a completed ERAS application form, Medical Student Performance Evaluation (formerly Dean’s Letter)and transcript, and reference letters for application. .

Contracts are generated by the Institution following either a formal match or other formal offer of employment by a non-Match participating program. Contracts are generated annually for each subsequent year of employment based on successful completion of all program and institutional requirements. The GME Office manages the contracting, credentialing and onboarding process. Details about this process, including licensing and all HR requirements will be communicated electronically with all matched applicants by the GME Office.
After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Effective June 1, 2011, agencies in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Executive Branch will use the E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.

All graduates of international medical schools must hold a valid certificate issued by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be appointed as a resident or fellow.
