Applying for residency is a new and exciting time, with endless possibilities open to you and the ability to go almost anywhere in the country. My interviews were spread up and down the East Coast, because I wanted to stay closer to home as I am a Pennsylvania girl. My days spent at UVA during my interview truly took me by surprise, and every day that I have spent here during my residency has lived up to the experience I had during my interview.

Charlottesville is truly a hidden gem in Virginia, and feels like a city within a small town. While I enjoyed my time in Philadelphia during medical school, I was looking forward to getting back to a pace that I was used to after growing up in a small town. The list of things to do are endless – from tasting wines at the numerous vineyards within a short drive, to the breathtaking views on hikes exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, and finally experiencing the countless local restaurants and events that occur daily right in town.

Meeting all of my co-residents for the first time, it felt as if I had known everyone for years. Everyone is incredibly smart and talented but also caring, supportive, and just fun people to be around. We have truly become a family, both at work and outside the hospital. The program itself is designed to challenge you to your limits but also embrace and support you – all to make you into a great physician. At UVA, we have attendings and staff who are world-renowned in their fields, but yet are down-to-earth and enthusiastic, which makes learning an extremely tough and demanding job enjoyable. UVA is a world-class program, both in the teaching it provides and the people it attracts, and I could not have been more fortunate to be a part of it. We look forward to having you in our family!
