Two different VPNs that School of Medicine students may need<\/h4>\n

Academic<\/strong> – All School of Medicine students will need this eventually.<\/p>\n

Health System<\/strong><\/a> – Only a few School of Medicine students will need this VPN. Students who want use an email client other the browser-based webmail when off-grounds, \u00a0who are accessing data stored on the clinical network, or accessing clinical systems from an iPad. Contact the Med Ed Technology team at mededweb@virginia.edu if you are unsure and\/or want to discuss whether a health system VPN is needed.<\/p>\n

Academic VPN<\/h4>\n

Access to some academic resources are limited to being on Grounds – Virtual slides, Health Sciences Library subscriptions and other fair use materials. When off-grounds, you can use UVA Anywhere<\/strong> to create the VPN connection necessary to access these resources. You can install the UVA Anywhere software when on-grounds, but will need to be off grounds to connect to the VPN.<\/p>\n

Health System VPN<\/h4>\n

Students are granted access to the Health System VPN at matriculation; however, as mentioned above, only a few students will need to install and use it.<\/p>\n

To use the Health System VPN, your computing device must meet additional requirements\u2014most notably, a supported operating system, an encrypted hard drive, and antivirus software. It’s also required to keep your device up to date with security patches. Instructions for how to keep your device compliant.<\/a><\/p>\n
