UVA Box.com<\/h3>\n

The university offers up to 1 TB of storage to students for free as long as you are at UVA. This solution is appropriate for\u00a0your University files containing non-sensitive and moderately sensitive data (eg. FERPA-protected data including transcripts). Box.com is NOT<\/strong> appropriate for highly sensitive data (eg. personal identifiers combined with financial information, HIPAA or PHI).<\/p>\n

Disk Encryption<\/h3>\n

The built-in applications for Windows (BitLocker) and Mac OS (FileVault) are supported by both the academic and health system and we recommend that you enable the encryption application for your operating system to secure data on your devices.<\/p>\n

USB\/flash drives<\/h3>\n

UVA Health will be adopting a policy in 2025 that prohibits USB\/flash drives on computers that they manage.<\/p>\n

DropBox<\/h3>\n

UVA Health will be discontinuing support for DropBox in 2025.<\/p>\n

Designated department shares on clinical network<\/h3>\n

Many hospital departments use shares on the clinical network to share data – moderately and highly sensitive data. They typically surface as “F:”, “O:” and “Z:” drives on Windows workstations and “hscs-share1” on Apple\/Macs. If given privileges, you can connect from your personal laptop if you are connected to the clinical network and\/or are using a Health System VPN.<\/p>\n
