\"Dr.Please join us in congratulating Dr. Ed Egelman to his election to the National Academy of Sciences. Ed has been a pioneer in electron microscopy, cryo-EM and the analysis of helical macromolecular systems such as F-actin, bacterial pili, viruses, and DNA-protein assemblies for over 35 years. Ed joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics in 1999 and has been a member of the Center for Membrane and Cell Physiology since its inception. Ed is also a former president of the Biophysical Society and former Editor-in-Chief of the Biophysical Journal. This recognition is a fantastic success for him and also an enormous recognition of the great fundamental scientific research done at UVa.<\/p>\n
