Derewenda, PhD search for inexpensive, accessible test for Ebola.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Derewenda and Engel recently made a breakthrough in Ebola research when they identified the structure of a part of the virus important in the reproduction process \u2014 a protein inside the nucleocapsid, the core of the virus containing all of its genetic material.<\/p>\n<p>That discovery could hold the key to coming up with a detection system more suited to doctors in remote locations. \u201cThis is a question of time,\u201d Derewenda said. \u201cThere\u2019s a need for fast, cheap detection systems.\u201d&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyprogress.com\/news\/local\/uva-duo-search-for-inexpensive-accessible-test-for-ebola\/article_6041b6ee-baf9-11e4-b13d-b3c2ed6707c2.html\">Cavalier Daily article<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MIC Professor Daniel Engel, PhD and structural biologist Zygmunt S.
