Eric Davis, MD

Eric Davis, M.D.  – A pulmonary and sleep trained physician who has a clinical interest in improving sleep and breathing outcomes in patients with neuromuscular disorders

 

 

 

 

 

Debbie Eggleston, RN, MSN (434) 243-5932 email – Coordinator of UVA’s ALS Clinic.  Registered Nurse with many years of varied nursing experience including care of persons with neurological disorders.

 

Melissa Fox, PT, DPT (434) 760-4520, email – physical therapist for the UVA ALS Clinic since its inception in 1999, and has participated in extensive continuing education related to ALS.  Melissa is also the physical therapist for the UVA Adult MDA Neuromuscular Care Center, as well as working with inpatients at UVA hospital, specializing in neurological critical care.

 

Lara Wilkinson, PT, DPT (434) 760-4528 email – Physical therapist at UVA Hospital, with a focus on geriatrics, who has worked with UVA’s ALS clinic since 2010. She has worked with neurological patients in a variety of settings including acute care, outpatient, home health, and rehab.

 

Kendra Sheard, OTR/L email – Occupational Therapist at UVA’s Transitional Care Hospital and working with UVA’s ALS clinic since 2007.  In addition to many years of experience with patients suffering from neurological conditions, she has presented on the role of OT with the ALS patient at both state and national conferences. In 2014, she assisted the American Occupational Therapy Association in revising the OT practice guidelines for adults with ALS

 

Renee S. Bricker, M.S. CCC-SLPemail – Renee is a Speech-Language Pathologist for UVA’s ALS Clinic, MDA clinic, and provides inpatient acute speech services at UVA Medical Center.  She has experience in evaluation and treatment of swallowing, speech and language, and communication disorders in adults with neurologic injuries or diseases. Renee is trained in FEES and MBS Imp and graduated from Clarion University of PA in 2003.

 

Kimberly Monge-Fera, M.Ed-CCC-SLPemail – Kim graduated from the University of Virginia in 2014.  She has been involved in UVa’s ALS clinic since that time and also provides inpatient acute speech services at UVA Medical Center.  She has experience in evaluation and treatment of swallowing, speech and language, and communication disorders in adults with neurologic injuries or diseases.

 

Patricia Wilkinson, RRT email –Respiratory Therapist for the ALS Clinic. Has been at UVA since 1991 serving in many capacities as a Respiratory Therapist.

 

Chelsea Crowford, MSWemail – Social Worker for UVA’s ALS Clinic and for UVA’s Neuroscience Services Center. Chelsea has special training in supportive services for pt’s a families with ALS and other neurological disorders.

 

Laura Knotts, RDN, email  – the lead Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for the ALS clinic.  Laura is part of the UVA Medicine Nutrition Support team which also provides care in the UVA acute care setting and digestive health clinic.  Occasionally you will meet another Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from the UVA Medicine Nutrition Support team when Laura is away.  You may find useful nutrition information specifically for those with ALS on the UVA GI Nutrition website under patient education materials.   For specific nutrition questions you may contact Laura at the following email address or may contact the ALS nurse coordinator, Debbie Eggleston, for the contact information of the other Registered Dietitian Nutritionist you may have met in clinic

 

Jean Sheard, Volunteer– Responsible for the ALS Functional Rating scores, as well as making patients and families feel welcome and comfortable. Jean Aids each of the disciplines with any administrative responsibilities and is a general support for the clinicians and each of our patients.

Jennifer Mundy, MSW – 540-797-0561, jmundy@alsinfo.org  The ALS Association-DC/MD/VA Chapter’s UVA ALS Clinic Liaison and Care Services Coordinator serving families living in southwest VA along with parts of the Shenandoah Valley, Central and Southside VA.  The Chapter’s free services include specialized ALS support from the Care Services team which includes home visits and ongoing support, information and referrals, community education and outreach, medical equipment loan closets, support groups, medical transportation grants, an extensive assistive technology program as well as multidisciplinary ALS clinic support.

Rachell Westby, M.C.D., CCC-SLP – 804-912-5758, rwestby@alsinfo.org  The ALS Association-DC MD VA Chapter’s Assistive Technology Program Manager serving families in Virginia.  The Chapters’ free Assistive Technology (AT) Program services include AT clinic classes, individual sessions, and AT loan closets.

 

Ashley Staples, MSW 804-285-2961, astaples@mdausa.org – Serves as the Family Support and Clinical Care Coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work. Ashley has a vast amount of experience working in both individual and group therapy settings (namely family/interpersonal relations) and she looks forward to assisting the families in the area with resources and support available to them! The local MDA office is located in Richmond, VA.
