The Adult Neuropsychology Clinic<\/a> in the Department of Neurology offers multiple clinical and research training opportunities. We offer a formal fellowship in clinical neuropsychology that meets the requirements set forth in the Houston Conference Guidelines. There are also opportunities for medical students, undergraduates, and graduate students to engage in varied training experiences, including a formal practicum. A formal practicum in pediatric clinical neuropsychology is also available.<\/p>\n

Clinical Neuropsychology Fellowship Program<\/h4>\n

The main focus of our fellowship is clinical training in the outpatient neuropsychological assessment of adults and older adults with neurological disorders. We staff several multidisciplinary clinics including the Memory Aging and Care Clinic (MACC)<\/a>, Movement Disorders Clinic<\/a>, Functional Neurosurgery Clinic<\/a>, Huntington\u2019s Disease Clinic<\/a>, James Q. Miller Multiple Sclerosis Clinic<\/a>, and Neuro-Oncology Clinic<\/a>.\u00a0 Our role in these clinics includes consultation, individual assessment, feedback to patients and families, and cognitive\/behavioral assessment for clinical trials. We regularly perform pre and post-operative assessments for individuals undergoing deep brain stimulator (DBS) placement surgery to treat Parkinson\u2019s disease and we are occasionally called upon to see inpatients to address issues of decision making capacity. Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to see individuals, care partners, or couples for psychotherapy. The didactic component of our program includes participation in departmental grand rounds, journal clubs, the neuropsychology seminar series, and brain cuttings. There are several opportunities for mentored research (both archival and prospective studies), and it is expected that each fellow will complete a research project for publication or presentation at a national conference. Thus, we consider the breadth of training resources as well as the flexibility to pursue specialized interests a strength of the fellowship.<\/p>\n

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Clinical Research Assistantship<\/h4>\n

We offer undergraduate, graduate, and medical students the opportunity to engage in mentored clinical research through our lab. The breadth and intensity of involvement varies by the individual student and faculty member. Opportunities to participate in clinical research exist in many different areas, including in Parkinson\u2019s and Alzheimer\u2019s disease, as well as dementia care.<\/p>\n

Pediatric Clinical Neuropsychology Practicum<\/h4>\n

Dr. Brenner has a practicum in pediatric neuropsychology for clinical psychology graduate students. Students participate in the clinical assessment of children with complex medical and neurological disorders. They gain experience with medical record review, test selection, advanced clinical analysis, interpretation of results, and report writing. The educational component of the practicum includes assigned readings relevant to clinical practice and the option to audit a weekly neuropsychology didactic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
