One of my interests as a postdoctoral researcher in the Kipnis Lab is to understand how meningeal lymphatic function affects the drainage of CSF components and if progressive dysfunction of meningeal lymphatic drainage in the aged CNS might predispose for neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. We are currently using a diverse set of surgical, biochemical, imaging and gene expression screening techniques to further unveil the functional connection between the newly described meningeal lymphatics and the CNS and to figure out how these two systems work in tandem to modulate the CSF-ISF recirculation and CNS homeostasis. Additionally, we are examining the changes in meningeal lymphatics in mouse models of aging and of Alzheimer’s disease and developing therapeutic strategies aimed at ameliorating brain amyloid pathology and cognitive impairment by boosting meningeal lymphatic function.
