Ms. Nerby oversees the Congenital Eye Disorder (CED) program’s coordination of patient care, consulting with patients, providing important information on congenital eye disorders, and works in the CED clinic with the team of physicians.  Ms. Nerby has presented her work at international meetings, co-authored journal articles, a book, and written a chapter in a medical/scientific textbook, all relating to the congenital eye disorder aniridia.

Aniridia Foundation International (AFI) is a separate nonprofit entity that does not receive any financial support from the University of Virginia although AFI’s office is in the Department of Ophthalmology. Since 2011, AFI has been involved in the UVa Congenital Eye Disorder program assisting researchers, physicians and patients with Aniridia syndrome in the following ways:
• provides all subjects for aniridia research studies
• provides all clinical trial subjects for the a drug trial designed to reverse the damage caused by the disease aniridia
• provides support for genetic testing as funds allow
• data from the AFI Medical Registry program has provided key information for peer reviewed journal articles, knowledge for care and research studies
