The goal of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the University of Virginia is to provide additional training in the management of the entire spectrum of foot and ankle disorders.\u00a0 Participation in the fellowship will prepare surgeons for careers in the academic or private setting.\u00a0 Throughout the year, the fellow will work with three attendings in a team-oriented atmosphere.\u00a0 The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in educational and research endeavors throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Clinically, the fellow will be exposed to all aspects of foot and ankle pathology and procedures including ankle arthroscopy and sports medicine, total ankle replacement, fusions and reconstructions for deformity and arthritis, correction of forefoot deformities, management of charcot arthropathy, and treatment of foot and ankle trauma.\u00a0 The fellow will have the opportunity to work with athletes of all levels.<\/p>\n

CONFERENCES<\/h4>\n

The fellow will participate side by side with attendings at weekly division and departmental conferences.\u00a0 The fellow will attend the annual AOFAS summer meeting, and additionally will have the opportunity to present at and attend other meetings throughout the year.<\/p>\n

RESEARCH<\/h4>\n

Numerous research opportunities are present at the University of Virginia, both directly associated with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and throughout the University as a whole.\u00a0 The fellow will have the ability to pursue areas of particular interest.\u00a0 As a requirement for fellowship completion, the fellow will be expected to submit two papers for publication and at least one abstract for presentation at the AOFAS summer meeting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
