The appropriate board must approve all research projects. Get started on the approval process early! A good place to start is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginia.edu\/vpr\/irb\/HSR_docs\/Guidance\/UVaInvestigatorGuide5-1-08.doc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IRB Research Guidance<\/a> document.<\/p>\n<p>Before participating in any research, you must complete a human subjects research <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginia.edu\/vprgs\/irb\/hsr\/citi.html\">CITI training module<\/a> (certification good for 3 years).<\/p>\n<p>The IRB has an online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginia.edu\/vpr\/irb\/hsr\/writingassistance.html\">Protocol Builder<\/a> that will create a blank Word template of the appropriate paperwork.
