To be eligible for the Fellowship Program, the candidate must have an MD\/DO degree and the qualifications to obtain a license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia. The candidate must be a Resident in Pediatrics at the PL-2 level or higher at an ACGME-accredited program or have completed this training. Upon completion of a Pediatric Residency Program, the candidate must become eligible to take board examinations in Pediatrics offered by the American Board of Pediatrics. For candidates that lack these specific qualifications, such as those applying from outside of the United States, applications may be considered on an individual basis. \u00a0For more information about the NRMP match, please reference the link below.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.nrmp.org\/fellowships\/pediatrics-specialties-fall-match\/ Cmd+Click or tap to follow the link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nrmp.org\/fellowships\/pediatrics-specialties-fall-match\/\"> <b>NRMP Pediatric Specialties Fall Match<\/b><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Important Dates for the NRMP Match:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>December 2\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Rank List Deadline<\/p>\n<p>December 16\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Match Day<\/p>\n<p><i>Please note we are currently not using the ERAS\u00a0application.<\/i> For the application process, each applicant must submit three letters of recommendation, one letter being from their pediatric program director,\u00a0along with a personal statement and current CV. This paperwork and\u00a0the other listed\u00a0materials below\u00a0can be mailed, emailed or faxed to the Program Coordinator, Carole Abel.<\/p>\n<p>Application Materials:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CV<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement<\/li>\n<li>Passport-size photo<\/li>\n<li>Medical school transcript<\/li>\n<li>USMLE or COMLEX scores<\/li>\n<li>Two letters of recommendation from medical faculty that are familiar with the candidate\u2019s work in pediatrics and\/or research<\/li>\n<li>One letter\u00a0of recommendation\u00a0from the Pediatric Residency Program Director<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Generally, interviews take place in late summer early fall. The Program Coordinator will contact all applicants with available dates of interviews and a schedule prior to the interview will be sent to all applicants.<\/p>\n<h3>Foreign Medical Graduates<\/h3>\n<p>All graduates of foreign medical schools must hold a valid certificate issued by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be appointed as a resident or fellow. For more information on certification please contact:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecfmg.org\/\">ECFMG<\/a><br \/>\n3624 Market St.<br \/>\nPhiladelphia, PA 19104 USA<\/p>\n<p>Based on your current certification status, you may be required to take the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) and\/or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). For information, contact the ECFMG or consult with the visa section of the United States embassy in your country of origin or an INS office in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants who are not United States citizens are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa and maintaining legal permission to work in the United States. Employment is contingent upon evidence of the appropriate visa and permission to work in the United States to a University official. Generally, foreign medical graduates are sponsored by the ECFMG for J-1 visas. Other visa types will be considered under certain circumstances and on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>ERAS is available to students and graduates of foreign medical schools through the ECFMG which serves as their designated Dean&#8217;s office. U.S. citizenship or permanent J 1 visa status is required.<\/p>\n<p>Following receipt of the completed application and letters of reference, onsite interviews are arranged.
