Researchers with the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies have published a new analysis of 1,678 cases of the reincarnation type, examining the “intermission time” — the interval between a previous person’s death and a child’s birth. The study found that how unexpected and how natural a death was significantly predicted the length of this interval, with median intervals dropping by 40–45% between the least and most unexpected deaths. The association held up across multiple checks for bias, including verification quality and family belief in reincarnation, suggesting a pattern not fully explained by existing psychosocial theories.
