Fatma A. Wise is a Research Specialist Intermediate at UVA’s Division of Perceptual Studies. She received her PhD in Psychological Counselling from Cukurova University, Turkiye in 2017. Her professional background includes working as a researcher, academician, lecturer, and guidance counselor in a large public school serving highly marginalized populations in southeastern Türkiye.
She has conducted extensive quantitative and qualitative research on cognitive flexibility, coping strategies, and the discrimination experiences of marginalized populations, with a special focus on people with disabilities and the decision-making of individuals with severe mental illnesses.
Growing up in an Alawite culture that deeply values reincarnation, near-death experiences, and after-death communications, Fatma has been fascinated by the research conducted at DOPS for a long time. With a Ph.D. in counseling psychology and fifteen years of experience in research, she is excited to further support and contribute to this field of study at DOPS.
