This year, GBS <\/a>is\u00a0hosting a Student Art and Image Competition. As a part of the renovation to the Biomedical Education Classroom, we would like to showcase the scientific creativity of students in our graduate programs. These entries may be as creative as you choose, from original productions to creative presentation of all forms of data, microscopy to Western blots. If you’re looking for inspiration, try here<\/a>!\u00a0We want you to be as creative as possible!<\/p>\n

The competition is open to all students and entries will be judged anonymously by our peers and faculty at the GBS Symposium on March 21.\u00a0The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 18, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are the details and rules:<\/u><\/p>\n

What kind of art are we looking for?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition is open to all imagery that can be defined as depicting “Biomedical sciences,” as interpreted by the entrant.\u00a0\u00a0Imagery can be real\u00a0digital\u00a0microscopy, other scientific images, or sketches\/paintings, etc. – use your imagination, but it should be your work.\u00a0\u00a0 If the image has been published and you think there could be a copyright problem, please seek permission from the journal.<\/p>\n

What format should be used to submit\u00a0my\u00a0artwork?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Entries are limited to imagery in the form of a\u00a0digital\u00a0file\u00a0(i.e. TIFF, JPEG, GIF, PNG). The image must be high quality that allows enlargement while retaining good resolution.<\/p>\n

How will\u00a0my\u00a0artwork be displayed if it is selected?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0digital\u00a0files\u00a0of the selected art images will be used to generate a high quality canvas work of art, similar to those displayed in the MIC Library.<\/p>\n

Where do I\u00a0send\u00a0my\u00a0digital\u00a0file?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please upload your\u00a0digital\u00a0file\u00a0to your UVA Google Drive and share the link with Mike Schappe (ms9xb@virginia.edu<\/a>). I can access and download the file from there. If you have any issues or need to make special arrangements, please let me know.<\/p>\n

When is the entry deadline?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The deadline to submit your\u00a0digital\u00a0file\u00a0is March 18, 2016.<\/p>\n

How will\u00a0my\u00a0art image entry be exhibited and juried?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each entry will be de-identified, assigned a number, and printed in color on standard 8 1\/2″ x 11″ paper. All entries will be displayed at the GBS Symposium Reception on March 21, 2016. Attendees to the reception will vote for their top 5 entries. One voting score sheet per person (on your honor).<\/p>\n

When will the winners be announced?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The winners will be announced at\u00a0via email after the Symposium.<\/p>\n
